The lineup for the St. Thomas Iron Horse Festival main stage, August 15-18, is full of local talent.
Board executive Terri Sinclair said organizers wanted to showcase what St. Thomas and surrounding areas had to offer in terms of musical entertainment when they chose the lineup.
Small Town Girls, from the Tillsonburg-Langton area, is a band consisting of five teenage girls and will perform Saturday night.
“We chose them because they’re teenage girls and they are just up-and-coming and we like their music. They’re country,” Sinclair said. “They’re opening our country day on the Saturday.”
“Thunderstruck, the Friday night headliner, has been at the festival many times over the last 25 years and has been a crowd favourite,” Sinclair said. “All our bands are within Southwestern Ontario.”
Sinclair said it was important for the acts to remain local to give them a chance to showcase their talent.
“We like showcasing the local talent, in and around (St. Thomas), and helping them get their name out,” Sinclair said.
St. Thomas musician Aaron Allen will be headlining the Saturday night.
Malichi Male, a former mayoral candidate and St. Thomas musician, will be performing on Thursday night, as well as serving as host for the whole weekend.
The Iron Horse Festival will take place from Aug. 15-18 in downtown St. Thomas.
