Hyundai, Genesis recall over 8,000 vehicles in Canada over power loss risk
Hyundai's recall covers a short-circuit problem; while Genesis is recalling several models over a possible fuel-pump failure

Hyundai is recalling 3,508 vehicles in Canada, and another 13,511 in the U.S., due to possible power loss. In affected vehicles, Transport Canada says “the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve may not have been manufactured properly.” In cars where that’s the case, an electrical-short circuit could occur, which can cause a loss of power to the vehicle’s wheels.
The affected models include:
- 2024 Hyundai Kona
- 2024 Hyundai Elantra
- 2024 Hyundai Venue
Hyundai will notify owners by mail, and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the EGR valve replaced.
Sibling brand Genesis is recalling 4,570 of its high-end cars and SUVs, which could also lose power, but for an entirely different issue that’s already been covered in a previous recall on Transport Canada’s site (2023-505). Those vehicles include:
- 2021-2023 Genesis GV80
- 2022-2023 Genesis G80
- 2022-2023 Genesis G90
- 2022-2023 Genesis GV70
In certain vehicles, Hyundai says high outside temperatures could cause the low-pressure fuel pump to fail, which may make the engine run “rough” or not start at all. It can also result in a loss of engine power on the road. Owners will be notified that they should take their vehicle to a dealership to replace the fuel pump, but TC also notes vehicles repaired under the previous recall don’t require an additional repair.
